How to block emails in Gmail

One, two and up to five emails you are not interested in your email inbox every day; no matter how many times you have tried to unsubscribe from these lists, your prayers have not been heard and you continue to receive these emails with the risk of downloading some virus on your computer. If only there was a simple way to block an email address in Gmail - well actually there is!

Rather than getting rid of them one by one every day, you can let technology do the work for you with a simple filter: Gmail automatically forwards all emails marked as "undesirable" to the trash. Alternatively, you can archive these messages and store them on a label where you can review them later. On OneHowTo we show you how to block an email address in Gmail.

Steps to follow:
1

In order for Gmail to send messages from a specific sender to the trash automatically:

Click the Settings button (the symbol of the nut) and then Configuration. Once there, go to Filters: Create a filter.

2

Enter the email address you want to block in the From field.

3

You can block an entire domain by typing the domain address.

For example: To block all mail from both user-a@example.com and user-b@example.com, type: "@example.com"

4

To block more than one address, separate them with a vertical bar: |

You can block: user-a@example.com and user-b@example.com by typing "user-a@example.com | user-b@example.com"

5

Then click Create a filter with these criteria.

6

Be sure to select the option "Delete" from the list of actions: "When a message that matches this search query is received"

7

Click Create Filter.

8

Also click on the box below to filter conversations ("Also apply to X conversations matching these criteria") in order to delete messages received earlier.
