How to Change your Gmail Account Name or Username

Looking for a way to change the name that appears when you send emails from Gmail? Want to change your Google account username and don't know how? Regardless of why you need to change your name on Gmail, don't worry - it will only take a few minutes.

Just follow the steps of this OneHowTo article and learn how to change your Gmail account name or username easily and quickly.

Steps to follow:
1

Your Gmail username or account name is the one that appears when you send emails from your Gmail account, and, by default, is now also linked to your Google account. If you want to change it, you need to follow a quick, simple process that will let you choose how you want to be identified by your contacts.

The first thing you need to do is log into Gmail with your email address and password. Once you're logged in, click on the little wheel that appears in the top right corner of the screen, just below your profile picture. A drop-down menu will then open, and you need to click on the 'Settings' option.

2

When you see the Gmail general settings screen, you'll need to select the Accounts tab. To do this, click on the 'Accounts and Import' heading at the top.

As well as changing your Gmail username, this tab allows you to change many other aspects of your Gmail account and personalise your email settings.

3

If you have more than one account, you'll need to choose which one you want to change the name of. The accounts you have will be displayed just to the right of where it says 'Send mail as'. After that, click on 'Edit info' for the option that will let you change your username.

4

A new window will open where you can change the personal information that appears next to your Gmail address. You can then deselect the name you've been automatically assigned and pick one that you prefer. Once you've done that, just click on 'Save Changes' to activate the name change.

5

You'll see that in the Accounts tab it now displays the new Gmail username that you've chosen. If you need to change your details again, you can carry out this step as many times as you like. To return to your email inbox, you just have to click on the Inbox option in the menu on the left of the screen, and the list of emails will reappear.
