Have you recently purchased asecond-hand iPhone and discovered that the previous owner didn't restore the factory settings? Many times we find that when we buy a mobile phone from a private individual, the person's saved images, applications and the like still remain on the device, things that you'll want to delete so that you can begin to personalise it. Or perhaps you've purchased a new phone and now want to sell your old iPhone or give it to someone else, and you need to know how to restore it to its original factory settings. In this OneHowTo article we'll explain a very simple way to factory reset an Apple iPhone without iTunes, and leave the device as new. Read on and discover how to factory reset an iPhone.

Steps to follow:
1

Factory resetting an iPhone is simple and, as long as you know your security code, you don't need to access iTunes. To do this, go to Settings on your iPhone. If the mobile is locked, this procedure will not help you unlock it.

2

Once you're in Settings, go to General and tap on it to factory reset your iPhone. Keep in mind that this option will delete everything that isn't part of the original factory settings. Therefore, if the phone is yours, don't forget to back up your data before doing this.

3

Under General, scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on Reset. In the same way that all the applications, images etc. will be deleted, the iOS will also return to the original factory version. So, if you currently have iOS 7 and the phone you want to reset is older than an iPhone 5, you must reinstall iOS 7 if you want to continue using it. The same thing will happen if you have Cydia, it will disappear and you'll have to jailbreak it again.

4

Under Reset, select the second option, Erase All Content and Settings. If you have set a passcode, you will need to enter it before you can completely reset your iPhone.

5

You will be prompted to confirm if you really want to delete all the data from your iPhone and restore it to the original factory settings. If so, tap Erase iPhone. The restoration process may take several minutes.

6

And that's it! You now have a factory reset iPhone. This procedure applies to all iPhone models but you will only be able do it if you have a passcode. Factory resetting a mobile doesn't affect your Apple ID so your account will continue to be active; you won't need to create a new one. However, it will not now be linked to that particular phone.
