How To Remove My Personal Information From Google

If you are wondering how to remove your data from Google, the online search engine recently provided an option to do so online. The Internet giant was compelled to provide this facility by the European Court of Justice judgment ruling on personal information online.

The controversial ruling, criticized as a form of censorship by some, has made it so that within the EU citizens have a right to appeal to google to delete information which is defamatory, irrelevant or an excessive invasion of personal privacy. To help you understand this process, we at OneHowTo will answer the question how to delete your personal information from Google.

Steps to follow:
1

Before explaining how to remove your data from Google, we'd like to point out that the judgment indicates that search results should be removed if they are what is deemed "inappropriate, irrelevant or excessive information for the purpose of the data". So before requesting the removal of your information, you should consider whether the the information about you qualifies under the above criteria.

2

To apply to remove your personal information from Google search results, you will need to fill out this online form providing all the information requested. See below for what information you will need.

3

This is the personal information you enter on the form:

  • The first thing you have to do to request that your data be removed from Google search results is to choose your country.
  • Then type your full name.
  • If someone else is doing so on your behalf, they should write their name in the box underneath.
  • This person should also indicate the relationship they have with you a family or professional relationship, or otherwise.
  • A contact email address.
4

The other information you will need to submit in order to request the removal of personal data from Google, is to copy the URL address of the web pages you want to be removed from search results. You must also write a comment on each of the url links you want to withdraw, explaining why the request is being made according to the criteria we mentioned above.

5

After completing this part of the form to remove your personal information from Google, you must verify your identity. To do this, you must upload a copy of a document to do so, for example, your passport. Google is obliged to remove the results no later than one month after you submitted the request, providing it meets the requirements for removal. You also have to check a box in which you certify that all data you send is correct and write your name in the "Signature" box - a kind of digital signature to confirm your intent.

6

Finally, click "Send" to transmit the request to the search engine to delete your data from Google. If your claim is accepted, the owner of the page will receive a notification from google that the page in question is no longer indexed.

7

As you can see, requesting to remove your data from Google is actually simple. However once you have submitted the request, you will then have to wait for the search engine to decide whether your case fits the circumstances indicated by the European Court of Justice.
