How to Remove DRM from Kindle Books

If you do not know what it is, DRM is a kind of invisible lock that not only allows you to read your eBook on other electronic devices, but to also delete them at any time; therefore, the books purchased on Amazon and other websites may be called 'rented' instead of 'purchased'.

If you want to strip your eBook, you've come to the right place! offers you a step-by-step guide on how to remove DRM from Kindle Books:

You'll need:

  • A computer with internet access.
  • Kindle device.

Steps to follow:

The first step to remove DRM from Kindle books is to click here to download Calibre; it's simply an eBook manager, but without it, you will not be able to remove DRM. We also will need to install these plugins.

Next, unzip all the files that you've downloaded on your desktop and let's get started on them!

Run Calibre on your eBook and click on 'Preferences'. Now click 'Change Calibre behavior', select 'Advanced', 'Plugins' and finally, 'Load plugin from file'.

Remember the plugin folder unzipped in step 2? Go to it and open 'Calibre Plugins'; there you will find several .zip files; open the first of these and select 'Add' (if you can't see this option, you'll find 'Open').

A new pop-up window will open; click 'Yes' and 'Accept' on the following one. Repeat this process until you have added all the 'Calibre Plugins' modules.

To configure 'Kindle and Mobipocket deDRM (0.4.5)', go to 'Plugins' and then 'Load plugin from file'.

If you do not find this option, you can check 'Only show user-installed plugins'.

Enter the serial number of your Kindle, select 'Apply' and finally, 'Close'.

Last step! Download the Amazon for Kindle app; run it and click on 'Archived content'. All books purchased on the website should now appear; double-click on the one you want to download.

After this, return to Calibre and select 'Add books from directories, including sub-directories (Multiple books...)'. In Mac OS X they are in a folder under 'Documents' entitled 'My Kindle Content'. Done! After importing them they will be DRM-free.

I only know that the DRM of Amazon music can be removed with the music converter, but I did not expect that the DRM of Kindle Books can also be removed, hahahaha
